Hi there folks, Have had this problem for a few days now. Windows would not start: windows system32 DRIVERS pci.sys file missing or corrupt. I have reformated and reinstalled XP PRO SP1 but the error is STILL there. Yes I can start in safe mode and if I put the cd in the drive windows will start without a problem. I was wondering if this was a HARDWARE issue now (fried hard drive or memory stick etc.) I should let you know that thanks to the wonderful weather in britain we had a lightning storm the other day and our electricity went off. Could this have damaged my computer??
You could try and rename the file c: windows system drivers32 pci.sys to c: windows system drivers32 pci.sys.old. Then maybe it will allow you to expand the file from the cd. Use this advice with caution, not really tested.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can offer.

One long tone every 2 seconds until I turn it off again. I tried removing a stick of RAM, then the other.
I tried booting a different hard drive. I cleaned my fans and basically took the whole thing apart and put it back together. But alas, it still doesnt boot. Has anyone got any ideas what the problem is pleeeeeeeease?

Hi All, I want all the Performance Monitoring data from my system similar like the Windows Performance Monitor. Is there any API in Windows that would fetch all the performance monitoring data. The hard disk have been formatted and partitioned by the installation disc and after copying over the necessary installation files, the computer will hang there after the reboot process.
I do not know what is wrong, the hard drive originally worked but I had deleted the partiton on the drive and did a fresh install but now it just hangs as described above. Can anyone lend some assistance into this matter? Thanks and Regards, • 4.
Greetings everyone! I am looking for one of two (or both) things. I would like to have my Windows XP SP2 workstation, LOG OFF (or LOCK) after a given amount of inactivity time. I have a BIO Logon reader and that doesn't have anything in it. If it can't automatically log off or lock, I know there is a way to do a registry entry and also create an icon to put on the desktop that will lock the workstation. Thanks Les • 5. Many versions of Windows ago I found a freeware app that would move/rename a program folder.
It would go thru the registry and make all the changes necessary so that the right folder was pointed to everywhere. I moved some pretty complex program files and it always fixed it up.
I just installed a program that did not give me a choice of installation folder and did not put itself in Program Files. I'd like to find that little app so I could move this truant program. Does anyone know if such a helper exists, and if so, can you please point me to it. Hi, I've been having intermittent trouble recently with Windows XP on a desktop that I built on my own. Apparently, there is some error caused by a device driver or something. I'm getting blue screens once or twice a day and Firefox is crashing randomly, and sometimes the blue screen is caused by Firefox.
I've also had Opera and IE crash on me recently. This indicates to me that maybe it's my network adapter. I recently moved back home, which means that I moved from a T1 wired connection to a Netgear USB wireless adapter that connects me to the wireless network at home, which goes to a cable modem. However, the wireless adapter never gave me problems when I was home for Winter Break. I dunno.I'm just rambling now.

Also, System Restore doesn't work, so I can't undo whatever I might have done. When I do a system restore, my computer restarts and then tells me that the system could not be restored and no changes have been made. Can someone offer any advice, or a guess as to how I could fix the problem? I'm willing to back up my stuff and reformat, but only as a last resort. Thanks, Chuck. Similar Threads: 1.
